Burg Sternenfels

Burg Sternenfels is a castle ruin situated on an elevated hilltop near Sternenfels, with preserved walls built from white sandstone blocks. The remains reveal the typical layout of a medieval stronghold with defensive ditches and multiple structural sections.

Local nobility built this stronghold in the early 13th century, with the first written record appearing in 1232. Over the following centuries, its role shifted several times before the site fell into decline.

The site served as a seat of local nobility who shaped the region for centuries. Later, it transformed to serve practical functions that reflected changing times and needs.

The grounds are open to visitors, and a water tower can be climbed for views of the surrounding area. Wear sturdy shoes since the path up the hill can be uneven and steep.

The water tower was constructed in the 1960s and houses a small exhibition about the region's history and geology. This blend of medieval ruins with a 20th-century structure creates an unexpected contrast on the hilltop.
