Burg Sternenfels, Medieval castle ruins in Sternenfels, Germany
The castle site stands on a 375-meter high Schlossberg mountain, featuring remaining walls and moats constructed from white sandstone blocks.
The Lords of Sternenfels constructed this stronghold in the early 13th century, with first written records dating back to 1232.
During the 17th century, the castle transformed from a noble residence into a forester's dwelling and a prison for poachers.
Visitors can access the former castle grounds and climb the 14-meter water tower with an observation platform built in 1967.
The water tower includes an exhibition about the Lords of Sternenfels and the geology of Stromberg and Heuchelberg regions.
