Burg Grumbach

Burg Grumbach is a medieval fortress in Grumbach with polygonal outer walls and preserved flanking towers. A deep moat surrounds the Gothic residential building topped with a distinctive saddle roof.

The fortress was founded between 1147 and 1158 by Marquard von Grumbach and served as a stronghold for centuries. A major turning point came with Wilhelm von Grumbach's execution in 1567, which marked the end of its military significance.

The Gothic-style residence shows how medieval fortifications transformed into noble homes over time. Walking around the building, you can see how military function gradually gave way to living comfort.

The fortress is privately owned and located at Am Burggraben 11, so you should respect the access restrictions posted on-site. It is wise to check ahead about current access rules before planning your visit.

The castle's cellars host an annual Christmas market that blends medieval architecture with contemporary celebration. This event brings life to the historic rooms and shows how the structure continues to serve the local community today.
