Burgruine

Burgruine Neidenstein is a castle ruin in Hollfeld positioned on a hilltop at about 410 meters elevation. The remains include preserved wall sections and the foundations of a three-story residential building.

The fortress was built in the 15th century by the lords of Aufseß. It suffered severe damage during the 1525 Peasants' War and was later destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, after which it became a ruin.

The site bears the name Neidenstein and its remaining walls show traces of medieval life. Visitors can still see how residents organized their living spaces and which areas served different purposes.

Multiple hiking trails lead to the ruins throughout the year. Winter visits offer better sight lines and easier access since vegetation is less dense.

The fortress remained functional until 1652, only being referred to as a ruin in documents after that point. This late date marks the end of its use following decades of wartime destruction.
