Burgruine Leuchtenberg
Burgruine Leuchtenberg, Medieval castle ruin in Leuchtenberg, Germany.
The castle stands on a 585-meter hill with a rectangular tower measuring 24 meters in height and walls 2.5 meters thick.
The Landgraves of Leuchtenberg built this fortification around 1300, maintaining control until 1322 when they moved their residence to nearby Pfreimd.
The castle ruins now function as an open-air theater, hosting annual summer performances by the Upper Palatinate Regional Theater.
Visitors need sturdy footwear to navigate the uneven terrain while exploring the remaining walls, towers, and architectural elements of the castle.
The rectangular keep, constructed with bossy stones, remains the largest and most complete castle ruin in Upper Palatinate.
