Burg Lichtenfels, Medieval castle in Dalwigksthal, Germany
The stone fortress stands on an elevated position above the Orke river, featuring preserved Gothic architectural elements and defensive walls.
The Abbot of Corvey constructed the castle in 1189, which was later destroyed and rebuilt between 1223 and 1230 under different ownership.
The castle reflects the changing power dynamics of medieval Germany, transitioning between religious authorities and noble families through numerous conflicts.
The castle remains in private ownership and access is restricted, except for specific civil wedding ceremonies arranged through local authorities.
During the early 2000s, the castle housed Biodata, an IT security company, before its bankruptcy in November 2001.
