Burg Linz, Medieval castle in Linz am Rhein, Germany.
The stone fortress stands on an elevated position above the Rhine River, featuring a central tower and defensive walls from the 14th century.
Archbishop Heinrich von Virneburg initiated the construction of Burg Linz between 1364 and 1368 to control river tolls along the Rhine trade route.
The castle serves as a testament to medieval architectural techniques, displaying Gothic elements in its remaining original foundations and tower structure.
Visitors can access the castle through Burgplatz street, though wheelchair users should note there are limitations due to the historical architecture.
The castle required 30,000 Cologne marks for construction, leading to its temporary pledge to the Electorate of Trier for eight years after completion.
