Located at 547 meters above sea level, Burg Hohenfriedingen features a polygonal ring wall and strong flanking walls protecting the main entrance point.
The castle received its first documented mention in 914 by King Conrad I, while the Lords of Friedingen constructed it between 1170 and 1180.
The castle grounds incorporate traditional architectural elements of medieval German fortifications, representing regional defensive construction methods from the 12th century.
During summer months, visitors can enjoy refreshments at the beer garden situated within the castle's courtyard, which operates as a restaurant establishment.
The castle survived multiple destructions, including the Swiss War of 1499 and the Thirty Years' War in 1647, with subsequent reconstructions maintaining its structure.
