Burg Hohlach, Medieval castle ruins in Simmershofen, Germany
The Burg Hohlach castle site contains remains of medieval fortifications and an 18th-century baroque manor house at the northern edge of the village.
Construction of the initial tower began between 1024 and 1039 under König Konrad II to protect the trade route connecting Frankfurt to Rothenburg and Ochsenfurt.
The castle gave its name to the House of Hohenlohe when Adelbert von Weikersheim first used the designation in 1178, derived from high woodland.
The site is accessible through local roads in Simmershofen, with the baroque manor house located at Hohlach 55 serving as the main reference point.
Despite selling Uffenheim's city rights to Nuremberg's burgrave in 1378, Gerlach von Hohenlohe maintained explicit control over Hohlach, marking its strategic importance.
