Mildenstein Castle, Medieval castle and museum in Leisnig, Germany.
Mildenstein is a stone castle perched on a rocky slope above the Freiberger Mulde River near Leisnig. The complex features thick defensive walls, several towers, and interconnected halls throughout its layout.
The castle appears in written records from 1046, when Emperor Heinrich III gave it to Agnes of Poitou as a wedding gift. Over the following centuries it served multiple lords as both a residence and defensive stronghold.
The chapel at this location dates to the Romanesque period and was built around 1100. It displays original architectural features and forms the center of the complex.
The castle is open daily except on Mondays and offers guided tours conducted in German. These tours lead through knights' halls and medieval kitchen areas within the structure.
Polish King Stanisław Leszczyński stayed here in 1706 with roughly 1000 people and 400 horses. This visit represented one of the largest gatherings the castle ever hosted.
