Burg Müddersheim

Burg Müddersheim is a medieval castle in Vettweiß built with a rectangular two-story main building topped by a hipped roof and constructed from rough-cut stone and brick. The complex features a three-sided courtyard design and sits within extensive garden and park areas that slope toward the nearby Neffelbach stream.

The earliest written record dates to 1057 and documents Polish Queen Richeza seeking shelter here after leaving her kingdom. Over following centuries the site passed through different noble families and became a lasting part of the regional landscape.

The chapel of Saint Anthony on the grounds reflects a long spiritual connection maintained by successive noble families who called the place home. Visitors can walk through these spaces today and sense how prayer and devotion shaped daily life here across generations.

The estate sits on Amandusstrasse in Vettweiß and is easy to reach from the village center, with access available from public paths around the property. The surrounding park and garden areas make for pleasant walking and offer clear views of the building from various angles.

The estate served as a filming location in 2013 for the film Rush, which told the story of Formula 1 racing. Several scenes were shot here using the historic architecture and surrounding landscape as backdrop.
