Burg Neuhaus

Burg Neuhaus is a castle in Föritztal with a distinctive round tower that rises above sturdy stone walls. Its architecture reflects 13th-century design typical of German fortifications from that period.

The Schaumberg lords built the castle in 1315, and it soon came under the control of the Henneberg family. During the Thirty Years War, Swedish forces used it as a supply depot before troops from Kronach destroyed it in 1634.

The museum displays medieval weapons and objects that show how people lived during that era. These items help visitors picture daily life inside a medieval fortress.

The castle can be visited through guided tours organized by a local association, and a small museum is located on the grounds. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as site conditions are basic.

During the Thirty Years War, the castle played a strategic role when Swedish armies stored supplies there before Kronach forces destroyed it. This brief period as a war depot is often overlooked in the site's history.
