Burg Neuhaus, Medieval castle in Windischeschenbach, Germany.
Burg Neuhaus is a medieval castle in Windischeschenbach in Upper Palatinate and is characterized by its distinctive Butterfaßturm tower. The structure displays typical features of medieval fortification architecture with preserved walls and defensive elements.
The castle was founded around 1300 by Ulrich I von Leuchtenberg and initially served as a fortified hunting lodge. In 1515 it passed to the ownership of Kloster Waldsassen, where it remained under monastic management.
The Waldnaabtal-Museum housed within the castle since 1985 displays exhibitions about the natural and economic history of the Waldnaab Valley. The collections give insight into how people in this region lived and worked over time.
The castle can be reached by hiking trails or car and sits in an accessible location above the village. Guided tours provide explanations about the architecture and history, while visitors can also freely explore the outdoor areas.
The castle has endured seven centuries without suffering fire or war damage, remaining remarkably intact throughout its long history. This preservation makes it a rare example of medieval construction that has escaped major damage or extensive restoration work.
