Burgstall Böheimstein, Medieval castle ruins on Schlossberg in Pegnitz, Germany.

The stone foundations and walls of this former fortification stand at 543 meters elevation, offering views across the Bavarian countryside.

Emperor Charles IV acquired the castle in 1357 and renamed it Böheimstein to connect it with his Bohemian territories.

The castle ruins demonstrate medieval defensive architecture techniques with remaining moats and foundation structures from the 14th century.

Multiple hiking trails lead to the archaeological site from Pegnitz marketplace, with a distance of 500 meters to cover on foot.

The castle survived numerous conflicts until 1553 when Nuremberg troops finally conquered, looted, and burned the structure during the Second Margrave War.
