Burgstall Warberg

Burgstall Warberg is a castle ruin situated on the Warenberg mountain near Neunburg vorm Wald. The structure once extended along a ridge overlooking the valley of the Ascha river below.

A countess named Adelheid donated the estate around 1138 to a monastery, marking the first documented mention of this place. After that, the fortification became connected to the history of local noble families.

The site is named after a medieval noble family who held power here. Today, the remains serve as a reminder of how people inhabited and used this fortress centuries ago.

Hiking paths from Neunburg vorm Wald lead up to the ruins on the hillside. Good preparation with suitable gear is important since the climb is steep and can be challenging.

Several granite blocks with carved door frames remain visible on the eastern section of the ridge. These details offer rare glimpses into the original design of the medieval structure.
