Burg Hundheim

Burg Hundheim is a castle ruin with earthworks, ramparts, and trenches situated on a hilltop near Neckarhausen. The remains are positioned about 289 meters (950 feet) above sea level south of Michelbuch.

The castle was built during the second half of the 11th century and is one of the oldest fortifications in the lower Neckar Valley. It marks a key point in the early development of defensive structures in this region.

The castle displays construction methods that were notable for its time, featuring an octagonal residential tower and polygonal ring wall. Visitors can still recognize the fundamental structures that set it apart from other fortifications of that era.

Sturdy hiking boots are recommended for visiting this site, as access involves uneven terrain and steep inclines. The approach from either Neckarhausen or Lanzenbach requires physical fitness and proper footwear.

Archaeological excavations have uncovered evidence of refined construction techniques from the early Middle Ages. The findings reveal that the builders possessed sophisticated knowledge of fortification design.
