Wagegg

Wagegg is a castle in Haldenwang featuring thick defensive walls, towers, and a central courtyard arranged in a medieval layout. The building preserves its stone structure while incorporating neo-Gothic design details and functions as a venue for public use today.

The castle was built in 1480 and came under the control of the Freyberg-Eisenberg barons in 1524, remaining with that family through multiple generations. After World War II, it housed war invalids and refugees before undergoing restoration.

The castle functions as a social hub where weddings, celebrations, and conferences bring together people from the surrounding communities. Visitors and locals experience it as a living gathering place rooted in regional tradition.

The venue is open from Tuesday through Sunday and welcomes visitors to its restaurant, beer garden, and four bowling alleys. The location closes on Mondays, so plan your visit accordingly if you wish to experience the full range of activities.

The castle operates simultaneously as a functional restaurant and recreation venue with bowling alleys, rather than functioning purely as a museum or display site.
