Chamäleon, Art theater in Hackesche Höfe, Berlin, Germany.
The Chamäleon is a theater in the first floor of the Hackesche Höfe complex in Berlin-Mitte, seating around 270 people. The hall sits inside a protected Art Nouveau building with original architectural features.
The site was first built in 1906 as Neumann's Festival Halls and served different purposes throughout Berlin's history. It reopened in 1991 as the Chamäleon Theatre with a focus on contemporary circus performances.
The venue hosts international circus productions with acrobatics and physical theater, bringing performers and audiences into close contact during shows. This direct connection between stage and seating shapes how visitors experience each performance.
Visitors can have food and drinks brought to their seats during a show. The entrance is located in Courtyard I of the Hackesche Höfe on Rosenthaler Strasse.
The venue received the Federal Theater Prize in 2023 for private theaters and guest performance spaces. This recognition highlights its role in promoting contemporary circus arts in Germany.
