Burkhardtsmühle

Burkhardtsmühle, Historic watermill in Waldenbuch, Germany

Burkhardtsmühle sits where the Reichenbach and Aich rivers meet in Waldenbuch, one of eleven mills scattered through Siebenmühlental near Stuttgart. The structure stands at an elevation of roughly 340 meters and harnesses water from both streams.

Friedrich Burkhardt built the structure in 1831 as a sawmill and hemp pulper, first calling it Untere Sägemühle. The name Burkhardtsmühle emerged in 1893 after the original industrial purpose of the site shifted over time.

The mill housed theatrical performances from 1968, with a local theater group establishing the Komede-scheuer before relocating to Mäulesmühle in 1974.

The site functions as a restaurant today, serving Greek and local cuisine to visitors. It is worth checking opening days and times ahead of your visit to ensure the place is open when you arrive.

In 1962, state police from Baden-Württemberg used the site for an anti-terror training exercise and filmed a police training video on location. The mill and grounds served as the backdrop for a fictional terrorist camp in this security operation.
