The industrial facility spans across multiple buildings designed for semiconductor production, featuring modern manufacturing halls and technical infrastructure on the eastern edge of Brandenburg.
Established in 2003 as a successor to the former Halbleiterwerk Frankfurt, the facility aimed to produce integrated circuits using carbon-doped silicon-germanium technology developed at IHP.
The semiconductor plant represents the transformation of Frankfurt (Oder) from traditional manufacturing to advanced technology industries, influencing local education and career paths.
The facility changed ownership in 2006 when Conergy purchased the premises to establish a solar cell production site, employing hundreds of workers in multiple shifts.
The building complex incorporated specialized clean rooms and advanced ventilation systems necessary for semiconductor manufacturing, later adapted for solar technology production.
