Cottbuser Ostsee, Lake in Germany
The Cottbuser Ostsee is set to become the largest artificial lake in Germany.
This body of water was formerly the Cottbus-Nord open-pit lignite mine.
The transformation symbolizes a shift from industrial use to a recreational focus.
Filling of the lake began in 2019 and is expected to end by 2023, barring delays.
Once filled, it will offer a range of activities like sailing, swimming, and cycling around its perimeter.
