Veleda Cave, Cultural heritage cave in Bestwig, Germany
The Veleda Cave features three entrances leading to a central hall measuring 12 meters high and 10 meters wide with limestone formations.
Archaeological excavations conducted by geologist Emil Carthaus uncovered remains of 32 humans along with pottery and jewelry dating to the Iron Age.
The cave bears the name of Veleda, a Germanic prophetess who, according to regional tales, used this location as a sanctuary.
The cave entrance requires a short walk from designated parking areas, and visitors need to bring appropriate lighting equipment for exploration.
The cave contains a narrow passage extending 100 meters from the second hall, where researchers discovered numerous ancient bones.
