Denk-Mal Güterwagen, Holocaust memorial in Winterhude, Hamburg, Germany
The memorial features a freight wagon on railroad tracks with sculptural figures created by artists POM and Cristine Schell in front of Winterhude District School.
Students researched their school's past from 1982, discovering two teachers were dismissed in 1933 and later deported during the National Socialist period.
The freight car stands as a memorial to represent the systematic deportation of Jewish citizens, particularly focusing on the stories of two local teachers.
The Hamburg Public Transport Company installed the tracks while the fire department positioned the freight car using a crane vehicle.
The exhibited wagon is a Gms39 model, manufactured in Czechoslovakia after 1948 for Deutsche Bundesbahn, representing vehicles used in deportations.
