Distriktspital

The Distriktspital is a former hospital in Kempten built from stone with classical details such as columns and symmetrical windows. The four-story structure reflects 19th-century medical building design, with a straightforward and durable exterior.

The building was constructed in 1841 as the first purpose-built medical facility in the region. After serving as a health institution for many decades, it later transitioned to different uses while maintaining its original exterior form.

The building reflects how hospitals became central community institutions in the 1800s, marking a shift from private care to public health services in Bavaria. Its architectural design itself expressed notions of care and organization through solid construction and orderly proportions.

The building is located near central Kempten and easily reached on foot. As a protected historical structure, visitors can view and photograph it from outside, though interior access is not available to the public.
