German Museum of damask and terry toweling

The German Museum of Damask and Terry Toweling presents textile machinery, manufacturing processes, and numerous fabric patterns across multiple exhibition halls.

The museum opened in 1905 to document the local textile industry, which began with damask weaving in 1666 and expanded to terry cloth production in 1856.

Through its exhibits, the museum demonstrates how textile manufacturing shaped the development and identity of the Großschönau region over three centuries.

Visitors can explore the museum Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 during summer months and until 16:00 in winter, with weekend hours from 14:00 to 17:00.

The facility maintains functional weaving machines that demonstrate the production techniques used to create intricate damask patterns and terry cloth textures.
