Dom St. Blasien

The cathedral features a grand central dome rising above its Neoclassical structure, with white stone walls and symmetrical architectural elements throughout the building.

The cathedral construction began in 1768 under architect Pierre Michel d'Ixnard, replacing a medieval monastery that had been destroyed by fire the previous year.

The cathedral functions as a central religious institution in the Black Forest region, hosting regular Catholic masses, baptisms, weddings, and religious ceremonies.

Visitors can access the cathedral daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with guided tours available in German and English through the tourist office.

The dome of St. Blasien Cathedral measures 36 meters in diameter, making it the third-largest church dome in Europe after St. Peter's and the Pantheon.
