Dorfkirche Karow, Medieval church building in Pankow, Germany.
Dorfkirche Karow is a fieldstone church in Berlin-Pankow built with three Romanesque arched windows on each side wall. The structure is topped by an eight-sided pyramid-roofed tower that was added in stone during the mid-19th century.
The church was built between 1250 and 1260 as one of the earliest village sanctuaries in the Berlin area. Architect Friedrich August Stüler extended it with a stone tower during the 1840s.
A simple tree marks the cemetery entrance and shapes how visitors experience this historical space. The gravestones scattered across the grounds reflect centuries of how local people honored their dead and maintained community traditions.
The cemetery surrounding the church is freely accessible during daylight hours and invites peaceful walks. The fieldstone church itself can be viewed from the outside, with masonry details and window features best seen in natural light.
Three steel cast bells from 1925 replaced the original bronze bells melted down during World War I for military purposes. This replacement tells how the war reached even remote villages and altered local life.
