Sankt Margaretha, Filial church in Brannenburg, Germany.

Sankt Margaretha is a hilltop filial church in the Brannenburg hamlet of St. Margarethen, surrounded by old farmsteads. The white-plastered nave has a steep dark shingled roof and a round window, while the square tower carries a clock face, stepped gables and two crosses. Inside, a pale yellow barrel vault with quatrefoil outlines leads through a pointed arch to a dark red and brown wooden altar.

St. Margarethen was first documented in 1447 in the Salbuch of St. Margareth, when Georg Sabelkiel of Flintsbach sold his estate to the church for 46 pounds of pfennigs; the building itself is older, having served as a chapel before that date. Major rebuilding took place in 1654, and in 1732 the late-Gothic winged altar was replaced, with additions made in 1755. The church, cemetery, cemetery wall with two gates and charnel house are listed as Bavarian monuments under file number D-1-87-120-50.

The church is the focal point of the hamlet of St. Margarethen, surrounded by farmsteads that likely date from 1000 to 1100. Its cemetery holds the graves and memorial plaques of well-known figures, and scenes for Marcus H. Rosenmüller's film "Wer früher stirbt ist länger tot" were shot there.
