Haus Murach, Castle ruin in Oberviechtach, Germany
The stone keep of Haus Murach rises 20 meters high, offering views across the Upper Palatinate Forest and towards the Bohemian border.
The castle's first documented mention dates to 1110, with the current keep structure constructed around 1250 as part of the border fortifications.
The Hauserner Burgfest festival brings the community together on the first Sunday of August to celebrate the medieval heritage of the castle.
Visitors need to obtain the castle gate key from the caretaker at Obermurach house number 58 before exploring the site.
The castle grounds include a miniature replica of the fortress and an adventure playground, making it appealing for families with children.
