Schloss Stopfenheim

Schloss Stopfenheim is a baroque castle in Ellingen with a four-winged structure that surrounds a rectangular courtyard. A surrounding moat frames the property and contributes to its overall architectural design.

The current castle was built in 1716 by master builder Franz Keller on the foundations of an earlier moated castle. The new structure reflected baroque architectural style and replaced the older fortification that previously stood there.

The building's facade displays coats of arms from Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg and local administrators, reflecting regional noble connections. These heraldic symbols tell visitors about the power structures and family relationships that shaped the area during that era.

The castle remains in private ownership and requires advance arrangements for any visits to be made. Visitors should contact the property beforehand to arrange access to the site.

From 1824 to 1964, the castle served as a rectory and residence for the local priest. It then passed into private hands and no longer held this religious role.
