Wysburg

Wysburg is a medieval castle ruin that stands on elevated ground and offers views across the forests of the eastern region. The stone walls are partially preserved and show the original structure of this fortification.

The castle was built around the year 1000 and served as a fortress to monitor trade routes and protect local territories. It was part of a larger defense system in this landscape.

The ruins show how castles were once built and were part of the protection system for the region. You can still see today in the stones which techniques the craftspeople of that time used.

The site can be reached via marked hiking trails that wind through the forests and lead to the nearby village of Remptendorf. It is advisable to wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain is uneven.

The ruins belong to a network of fortified structures in this region, showing how widespread castle building was in medieval times. Many of these structures are barely visible today, which makes these remains particularly valuable.
