Bogen railway bridge, Steel railway bridge in Aiterhofen, Germany.
The Bogen railway bridge is a steel structure that spans across the Danube area near Aiterhofen and connects two rail lines. The bridge was designed as a truss arch bridge and shows the typical engineering solution used for major river crossings from that era.
The bridge opened in 1895 as part of the Straubing-Miltach railway line and marked the expansion of rail infrastructure in Lower Bavaria. It made the construction of this line possible through a river crossing that had previously been a major technical challenge.
The bridge represents a significant example of 19th-century German engineering, demonstrating the industrial capabilities of Bavaria during its railway development period.
Access to the bridge structure is limited since it is an active railway line with strict safety regulations. From the riverbanks you can view the structure from a distance and appreciate its architecture.
In summer 2024, construction work near the bridge led to the discovery of a World War II aerial bomb in the river. The find showed that the region still carries traces of war beneath its peaceful surface.
