Mariannenpark, Public park in Leipzig-Schönefeld, Germany
Mariannenpark is a 22-hectare green space in Leipzig's Schönefeld neighborhood with playgrounds, sports facilities, a rose garden, and flower beds arranged throughout the grounds. The space is connected by winding paths that link different areas together.
Landscape architect Leberecht Migge designed the park in 1911 with modern planning principles, though it was not completed until 1928. The design was shaped by social ideals aimed at providing recreation for all population groups.
The park displays early 20th-century garden design principles through its curved pathways and distinct activity zones. Visitors can experience how green spaces were understood as essential places for city residents to relax and spend free time together.
The park is within walking distance from the Stannebeinplatz tram stop, located very close to the entrance. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the curved pathways encourage exploration throughout the grounds.
A preserved linden avenue in the park dates back to between 1621 and 1622 and once connected Schönefeld Castle with neighboring districts. These historic trees today form a special feature of the grounds and recall a distant historical period.
