Krefelder Stadtwald, Public park in Krefeld, Germany
Krefelder Stadtwald is a large recreational park spanning approximately 120 hectares with an extensive pond system and numerous trails for walking. The grounds feature open meadows along with facilities for tennis, golf, hockey, and other sports that serve visitors of all interests.
The park originated from a donation by silk industrialist Wilhelm Deuss in 1897, who gave the land to the city of Krefeld. Additional funding from Deuss a decade later enabled the expansion into the comprehensive recreational facility visitors find today.
The Stadtwaldhaus beer garden serves as a central gathering place where locals and visitors come together for events and social occasions. The venue reflects the tradition of combining recreation with community life in a shared public space.
The park is accessible year-round and suits visitors with varying activity preferences, from leisurely walks to active sports. Those seeking nature walks or relaxation can find suitable areas, while sports-minded visitors can use the dedicated facilities throughout the grounds.
The park gained recognition in 2004 as part of the Garden Art Route connecting regions between the Rhine and Meuse rivers, joining a network of landscape design sites. This acknowledgment highlights the artistic planning behind its design, extending beyond its role as a simple recreational space.
