Schloss Neideck

Schloss Neideck is a castle ruin featuring a prominent tower rising above remaining stone foundations in the center of Arnstadt's historic district. The site sits within a park setting and still clearly shows the layout of the original building complex.

During the 16th century, Count Günther von Schwarzenburg had the castle built upon the foundations of a 13th-century fortification. In the early 18th century, the building partially collapsed and was subsequently demolished.

The castle grounds host an exhibition with detailed miniature models showing Arnstadt and Erfurt Cathedral, offering insight into regional architecture. These models help visitors picture how the city and its major structures appeared in earlier times.

The castle is located in Schlosspark in central Arnstadt and is freely accessible. For more detailed information, visitors can contact the local tourism office, which arranges guided tours.

The tower is the main surviving element of the original structure, having withstood the collapse and demolition of the rest of the building in the early 18th century. This single tower remains today as the landmark of the place, demonstrating the durability of medieval construction.
