The Stiftskirche features two prominent towers that serve as landmarks and are depicted on the city coat of arms of Obernkirchen.
Founded in 1167 by Bishop Wernher von Minden, the current Gothic hall church replaced a Romanesque basilica that existed around the year 1200.
The church houses a late Gothic gilded wing altar from 1516, displaying the crucifixion of Jesus with over 200 detailed figures in relief.
Guided tours of the church occur every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM from late April through autumn.
A stone above the left portal bears the Latin inscription 'Contra hoc signum nullum stet periculum,' meaning 'Against this sign, no danger can stand.'
