Ehrenmal der Luftwaffe, Military memorial in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany
Ehrenmal der Luftwaffe is a military memorial on the grounds of an air force installation in Fürstenfeldbruck, Bavaria. At its center stands a stone bearing an Iron Cross, flanked by a gate inscribed with names, set within maintained outdoor grounds.
Construction began in 1957, funded through donations from air force members and private individuals, and the memorial was completed in 1966. The design was by Professor Ernst Zinsser, with sculptural work by Kurt Lehmann.
Every year on the eve of the National Day of Mourning, Luftwaffe representatives gather here to lay wreaths in memory of fallen service members. The ceremony gives the site a regular presence in the military calendar and keeps the act of remembrance visible and active.
The memorial sits within a military installation, so access requires prior arrangement with the Bundeswehr Service Center before planning a visit. It is worth contacting them in advance, as entry is not freely available at any time.
In 1979, a laurel wreath and the phrase 'IHR SEID UNVERGESSEN' (You are not forgotten) were added to the memorial years after its original completion. This later addition shows that memorial sites are not fixed objects but continue to receive new layers of meaning over time.
