Ehrenmal der Luftwaffe

Ehrenmal der Luftwaffe is a memorial located on the grounds of an air force installation in Fürstenfeldbruck that features a central stone with an Iron Cross and a gate inscribed with names of those remembered. The site includes landscaped grounds designed to provide a quiet space for reflection and remembrance.

Construction started in 1957 through donations from air force members and private individuals, with the memorial completed by 1966. The design by Professor Ernst Zinsser and sculptor Kurt Lehmann reflects the commitment to preserve remembrance of those lost.

Annual ceremonies take place on the eve of the National Day of Mourning, where Luftwaffe representatives lay wreaths to honor fallen service members.

The site is accessible by arrangement and maintained by the Bundeswehr Service Center. Visitors should check ahead since the memorial is located on military grounds.

A laurel wreath was added in 1979 and the phrase 'IHR SEID UNVERGESSEN' is prominently displayed on the memorial. This detail shows how remembrance sites evolve and receive additions over the decades.
