Naturtheater Steinbach-Langenbach, Open-air theatre in Schleusegrund, Germany

Naturtheater Steinbach-Langenbach sits in a forest area between two village communities in Thuringia and accommodates approximately 3,000 spectators. The stage follows an amphitheater design that works with the natural slope of the land.

The project emerged in the mid-1950s from local residents' desire to bring more cultural events to the region. Its first premiere took place in 1957, establishing this venue's role in Thuringia's cultural history.

The first performance on 10 July 1957 was Schiller's "Die Räuber", staged by the Meininger Theater under director Fritz Bennewitz; the season of 1959 drew 84,678 visitors to 40 performances, still the venue's best year. From 1957 to 1991 the Meininger Theater gave over 1,200 performances here, seen by nearly 1.9 million people.
