Augustinereremitenkloster Pappenheim

Augustinereremitenkloster Pappenheim is a medieval monastery church that houses intricate choir stalls and stone grave markers dating from different periods. The building also contains an 18th-century organ and wooden memorial plaques that document the lives of those connected to the site.

The monastery was established in 1372 and served as an important religious center for roughly 170 years in the region. When the last monk departed in 1545, it marked the end of monastic life at the site.

The choir stalls show the craftsmanship of medieval times and reflect how monks gathered here to pray and sing together. The space preserves traces of a religious community that lived and worked within these walls for generations.

The site is currently in private ownership and visits are only possible through scheduled guided tours arranged with local authorities. Plan ahead and contact the local office to arrange a suitable visiting time.

After the Reformation, the church became a burial place for both Protestant and Catholic members of the noble Pappenheim family. This unusual practice of shared use by both faiths reflects the complex history of this noble lineage.
