Emmauskirche, Lutheran church in Dresden-Kaditz, Germany
Emmauskirche is a Lutheran church in Dresden-Kaditz featuring an octagonal neo-Gothic tower constructed in 1869 by the Ziller brothers. The structure includes cross-ribbed vaults in the sacristy and is accompanied by three bronze bells, the oldest cast in 1676.
An original chapel occupied this site and was first documented in 1273 as one of Dresden's earliest religious structures. The present neo-Gothic building was constructed in the 19th century to serve the growing parish in this district.
The interior showcases wooden coffered ceilings decorated with stenciled patterns that reflect local craftsmanship. The 1887 organ designed by a regional builder remains a focal point of the worship space.
The church is located at Altkaditz 27 in Dresden-Kaditz and is open to visitors on regular community days. Expect stairs when entering the tower area and note that parking in the surrounding area may be limited.
Next to the church stands the Kaditzer Linde, a lime tree estimated to be between 700 and 900 years old. This tree is recognized as the oldest in all of Dresden and has defined the square's appearance for centuries.
