Heimatstube Reichenberg, Regional heritage museum in Augsburg, Germany
The Heimatstube Reichenberg is a regional museum in Augsburg displaying traditions and objects from North Bohemia. The exhibition spreads across multiple rooms and includes traditional costumes, paintings, textile-making tools, as well as extensive collections of photographs and historical documents about the area and the Iser Mountains.
The museum was founded in 1955 on Maximilianstrasse and opened to visitors in 1959. It relocated to Konrad-Adenauer-Allee in 1971 to make room for expanding collections.
The museum preserves the cultural memory of Sudeten Germans from the Reichenberg region, now called Liberec. Visitors see handcraft techniques and everyday items that show how people in this area lived and worked.
The visit offers access to over 1,500 volumes of local literature and thousands of photographs documenting North Bohemia and the Iser Mountains region. Visitors can take time to explore the different exhibition rooms and discover details at their own pace.
The museum houses a preserved fabric fragment from Emperor Charles IV's burial shroud in its collection of historical textiles. This rare piece connects the museum's collections to the medieval history of the region.
