Erdmannshöhle, Show cave in Hasel, Germany.
Erdmannshöhle is a limestone cave system that extends for more than 2 kilometers through the rock below Hasel. About 360 meters of the cave are lit and open to visitors on guided tours.
The cave was discovered in 1754 during stone quarrying and opened to visitors in 1773. It ranks among Germany's oldest commercial cave systems.
The name refers to Erdmännlein, small creatures from old stories about miners who once searched for minerals in this area. Visitors can still encounter these tales during tours and in the displays near the entrance.
The interior stays pleasantly cool throughout the year thanks to natural underground conditions. The entrance is easy to find in Hasel, and the pathways are well-suited for guided group walks.
Inside the cave stands one of Germany's largest stalagmite formations, over 135,000 years old. This striking structure grows only millimeters per century, revealing nature's extreme patience.
