The castle features two perpendicular wings, three stories high, with a round stair tower topped by a baroque dome and lantern at the inner corner.
Heinrich von Schönberg commissioned architect Hans Irmisch to build this Renaissance castle between 1585 and 1588, replacing the former medieval fortress of Burg Frauenstein.
The castle structure includes exhibition spaces displaying regional artifacts, architectural elements, and historical documents that showcase the development of Frauenstein over centuries.
The castle complex remains open for external viewing throughout the year, with guided tours focusing on the architectural features and historical significance of the building.
The castle's position on a hillside creates an optical illusion, as only two of its three stories are visible from certain angles despite its full height.
