Fernwehpark Hof is an outdoor collection featuring thousands of directional signs and location markers from cities across the globe, arranged to inspire thoughts of distant places. The park also includes handprints and other exhibits that expand on themes of travel and worldwide connections.
The park was founded in 1999 by filmmaker Klaus Beer and grew from the idea of making wanderlust visible through signs and place markers. In 2017, the collection moved from Hof to Oberkotzau, where it continued to expand on a newly developed site.
The Signs of Fame section displays more than 500 handprints and signatures from entertainment, sports, and political figures worldwide. This part of the park shows how it connects visitors to recognizable personalities from different nations.
The site is easy to walk through and offers plenty of space to move between different exhibition areas. Visitors should allow time to explore the various sections, as the collection is extensive and there are multiple highlights to discover.
The park houses an 18-meter-long direction sign, recognized as the longest place indicator in Europe. This oversized exhibit offers an interesting photo opportunity and shows how creatively the site interprets the concept of wanderlust.
