Fahrzeugmuseum Frankenberg displays restored cars from the local manufacturers Framo and Barkas that shaped the region's industrial landscape. The collection shows how these vehicles evolved across different time periods and production phases.

The museum was founded in 1996 after the city acquired the collection from the Barkas company when it closed in the early 1990s. This establishment preserved an important chapter in the region's manufacturing history.

The vehicles represent the pride of local workers who built cars for decades in the region. Their stories and craftsmanship are visible in how each automobile has been carefully restored and displayed.

The museum is now located in the ZeitWerkStadt center, presenting vehicles in an updated interactive exhibition format. Visitors can experience the automobiles up close in their redesigned setting and learn more about their regional significance.

One remarkable vehicle on display is the Barkas B1100 prototype, which never made it to production and exists as a one-of-a-kind example. This car reveals how the local factory explored new design ideas that ultimately did not reach the mass market.
