Pfarrkirche St. Andreas

Pfarrkirche St. Andreas, Filial church in Berchtesgaden, Germany.

St. Andreas Church is a single-nave Romanesque hall structure with a bell tower crowned by a baroque dome from the late 17th century. The building stands in the heart of Berchtesgaden and serves as a working parish church for the local community.

The church developed from a chapel built in 1358 by Provost Jakob I of Vansdorf and was expanded into a full parish church by Berchtesgaden citizens in 1397. This growth reflects how the town gained importance during the medieval period.

The interior contains notable religious artifacts, including a side altar from the first half of the 17th century and a four-bell peal created between 1959 and 1970.

The church sits in central Berchtesgaden with parking available nearby for visitors. Since it remains an active parish church, it is best to check visiting hours in advance to avoid disrupting regular services.

The church houses a Klais organ installed in 1993 with 21 registers across two manuals and pedal, creating a significant musical focal point. This instrument shapes the sound quality during services and special occasions throughout the year.
