Lothringer13, Contemporary art venue in Haidhausen, Munich, Germany
Lothringer13 is a contemporary art space in Munich with two distinct rooms: a larger hall for main exhibitions and a smaller space called FLORIDA for experimental work. Both occupy a converted industrial workshop and function independently to host different types of shows at the same time.
It opened in 1980, converting an old industrial workshop into a space for showing contemporary art. This transformation of a functional factory building into a gallery reflected a broader movement to repurpose urban industrial sites during that era.
The venue brings together artists from different backgrounds in group shows that explore current issues and artistic movements. You encounter diverse creative approaches displayed side by side, creating conversations between different perspectives.
The space is near Weißenburger Platz and easily accessible by S-Bahn. It welcomes visitors with disabilities with full accessibility throughout the building, and there is no admission fee to view the exhibitions.
The two spaces operate completely separately, allowing the venue to show entirely different artistic visions at the same time. This often creates surprising connections between what might seem like unrelated projects.
