Fortunabad, Natural swimming pool in Knautkleeberg, Leipzig, Germany
Fortunabad is a swimming complex with three separate water bodies located in the Knautkleeberg district. The waters sit within riparian forest near the White Elster River and offer different zones to experience the floodplain landscape.
The site began in 1890 as a clay pit for brick making. In 1920 the ground was converted into a swimming area and became an important local recreation zone.
The site takes its name from the Fortuna family who once used the land. Today it serves as a gathering place where visitors can connect with nature and experience the rhythm of the floodplain landscape.
The area is accessible throughout the year, though summer brings more visitors. Parking is available and public transport connects to the site, so arriving early on warm days helps you find a good spot.
The location is now an important fishing ground with healthy populations of pike, carp, and other fish. The former swimming area has transformed into a quiet retreat for nature lovers.
