St. Jakobus

St. Jakobus is a filial church in Schondorf am Ammersee featuring a tuff stone foundation and a prominent baroque bell tower crowned with an onion dome. The structure sits on elevated ground overlooking the beach promenade of Lake Ammersee.

The church was founded in 1150 under the ministerial family Konrad from Schondorf, marking an important establishment during the High Middle Ages in this region. Throughout the centuries, the building underwent significant transformations, particularly during the baroque period.

The interior displays a baroque altar arrangement centered on Saint James, with companion figures of Saints Mark and Catherine that define the visual character of the church space. These religious images reflect the devotion of the local community throughout the centuries.
