Schloss Bartensleben, Baroque palace in Erxleben, Germany.
Schloss Bartensleben is a Baroque palace built on an island surrounded by a wide moat in Erxleben. The structure comprises three wings with distinctive mansard hipped roofs and is connected by a bridge across the water.
The structure evolved from a 12th-century fortification into a grand Baroque palace that the von Veltheim family expanded during the 18th century. This transformation established the classical form visible today.
The castle served as a cultural center for the local nobility and continues to shape the appearance of the village. The adjoining English landscape park with its ponds and fountains shows how residents arranged their surroundings according to the ideals of their time.
The site is accessible by crossing a bridge, and the wide moat provides good views from the exterior. Visitors should be aware that the interior now serves as a nursing home, so access is limited.
Different sections of the building display dates such as 1471, 1567, and 1578, documenting its expansion over more than 100 years. These inscriptions reveal how the structure was repeatedly enlarged in several construction phases.
