Kunsthalle Gießen, museum in Germany
Kunsthalle Gießen is an art gallery in the city of Gießen located in a modern building on Berliner Platz. It displays only temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists and has about 450 square meters (4,800 sq ft) of exhibition space without a permanent collection.
The gallery opened in 2009 in a new cultural building, replacing a smaller predecessor with only about 340 square meters of space. Following a major renovation in 2023, the entrance door was relocated closer to Berliner Platz and the ventilation system was modernized.
The gallery takes its name from the square where it stands and serves as a meeting place where artists and visitors discuss contemporary issues. The open space with neutral walls and high ceilings invites people to engage with current ideas and questions.
The entrance is accessible with an automatic door and located on the ground floor of the town hall. Parking for visitors with disabilities is available in the garage at Berliner Platz, along with free portable stools and a wheelchair-accessible restroom nearby.
Every Saturday from 2 to 4 in the afternoon, visitors can speak with art educators about the current exhibition and analyze the works together. These personal conversations help people understand contemporary art more deeply and develop their own thoughts about the art world.
